1941 June 1, FARHUD POGROM(Shavuot) (Baghdad, Iraq)

After the defeat of the pro-German Prime Minister Rashid Ali al-Gailani by the British, organized riots broke out often joined by the police. Approximately 180 Jews were killed and nearly 2000 wounded, 586 Jewish-owned businesses were looted and hundreds of Jewish houses destroyed. This marked a turning point for Iraq's Jews. Eventually, in 1948 after their rights were canceled, and many fired from their jobs, they were left with little choice other than a mass exodus.
