1937 July 7, PEEL COMMISSION REPORT INVESTIGATING THE 1936 RIOTS
Was published. The Peel Commission concluded that "unlike the Jewish, the rise (in the Arab population), has been due in only a slight degree to immigration." The report totally and willingly ignored the documentation of tens of thousands of illegal Arab immigrants.Yhe commission recommended the partition of Mandatory Palestine into two states. The Zionist Congress (see August 3), while rejecting the actual borders, agreed to consider the proposal. The Arabs rejected it out of hand.
